The novel 'Malagiya Aththo' written by Prof. Ediriweera Sarathchandra was first published in 1958. Critics define this book as another turning point in the history of Sinhala novels, as it is written in a professional way, combining the environment, emotions, knowledge, all together, while standing apart from traditional love stories.
At the beginning of the novel, prof. Sarathchandra informs the reader about Japanese culture in a pictorial way, using a poetic language at the beginning of the novel. It is a story written around the love of Devendara San and Noriko San, an immortal loving couple in the annals of Sinhala literature.
The author writes the novel about the emptiness of Devendra Sanga's childhood. Therefore, the novel finally realizes that the surrealism of the novel is only a fantasy and that the same image is surrealist. can be. 
The opening paragraph of the novel gives a hint of the narrator’s frustration. It can be seen that this story is an attempt to highlight the pain of love of a tired man who chases after substitutes to satisfy his desire.
This speaks about a love affair between a robot artist named Devandara San and a young Noriko San who lives in Japan when he goes to study wood carving, and the cultural conflict that ensues between them. . The story unfolds from a noble man's point of view.
Like clouds hovering in the sky before it rains, Devandara wanders the streets of Japan, randomly walks to the restaurant where Noriko works. Due to that spiritual love, the story continues to revolve around the characters of Devendra San. The love between Devendra San and Noriko San can be seen as a crisis between two cultures
