Enid Mary Blyton known as the “Queen of Twentieth Century Children’s Books”. She was born on 11 August 1897 in Dalwich, East London, United Kingdom. As a child she hurt from certain diseases and she loved her father the most. But she was very lonely due to her father get married again because there was not close relationship between her and her mother.

She was good at writing since childhood, but no one care about her writing skill. In 1922 she published her first book of poetry, “Child Whispers”. After that she continuously wrote books on varies types such as education, nature, mysteries. She wrote many children’s books, including Noddy, Secret Seven, Famous Five and Caravan Family etc.

Enid Blyton was a written, teacher, social worker and she died on November 28, in 1968. But even today her books are still being sold all over the world. Today, her books have been translated into mare than 90 languages worldwide and by June 2018 she was the fourth most translated author in the world.

Enid Blyton has written about several series about girls based on her childhood experiences as well as her experience as a teacher, St. Clare’s, Malory Towers are most beautiful series. Enid Blyton’s books have been translated into Sinhala by various translators in Sri Lanka as well. The Malory Towers series that we are talking about today has also been translated by talented Sri Lankan translators such as Chandra Anagirathna, Gamini Samarakoon etc.

Malory Towers series consistent of six parts of books, which are also set in the stage drama and teledrama. This is a story little girl named Darrell Rivers who happens to be in a boarding school called Malory Towers. Darrell Rivers enters the school with the intention of doing all the work very well at the school but due to her intense anger she has face many problems. But gradually, everything gets used to it and eventually she can become the school’s sports captain as well as the Head-Girl in the school. Meanwhile, the author presents in a very interesting way the various trouble she has face, different types of friends, sport meet, concerts, as well as the secret night parties that are secretly held from teachers.

‍The main character of the series, Darrell Rivers, is a very talented and determined girl and her best friend is Sally Hope. Gwendoline who always behaves stupidly, Alicia Johns is always funny, and other girls like Betty, Daphne, Mary Lowe as well as principal, teachers have won the love of readers. In 2009, author Pamela Cox added six more books to Mallory Towers Series. It is about the Darrel’s sister Felicity Rivers.
